Powering Change. Elevating Communities.

At Check Your Head Project, we believe that the first step toward mental wellness shouldn't be blocked by a price tag. We are a community-driven non-profit dedicated to bridging the gap between desiring mental health support and actually receiving it.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: to ensure that financial barriers never stand in the way of a first step. We raise funds specifically to cover the cost of initial therapy sessions for community members who are uninsured, under-insured, or low income, providing them with the momentum they need to begin their healing journey.

How We Work

We operate on a model of community reciprocity. Instead of traditional fundraising, we roll up our sleeves and get to work.

  • Community Service: Our team and volunteers complete small jobs and essential tasks for local residents and businesses.

    Examples of services include:

    1. mowing a lawn

    2. hauling away junk

    3. building furniture,

    4. basic handyman tasks‍ ‍

    5. and more!

  • Fundraising through Action: The proceeds from these services are funneled directly into our therapy fund.

  • Direct Impact: Every task we complete—no matter how small—contributes to a credit that pays for a neighbor's first therapy visit.

Why the First Session?

The "first session" is often the most daunting. Between the administrative hurdles and the out-of-pocket costs, many people give up before they even speak to a professional. By removing the financial burden of that initial appointment, we help individuals establish a connection with a therapist, create a treatment plan, and find the courage to continue.

Our Vision

We envision a community where we take care of one another’s environments and minds simultaneously. Through hard work and shared empathy, Check Your Head Project is building a world where mental health support is a right, not a luxury.

“By the community, for the community.” > Whether we’re helping you with a project or helping a neighbor find their voice in therapy, we’re all in this together.

A Message from Our Founder

My name is Scott MacDonald, and I founded the Check Your Head Project out of a deep-seated commitment to mental health advocacy. What began as a personal passion project to raise awareness—specifically within demographics traditionally hesitant to seek support—has evolved into a mission-driven organization focused on removing the tangible barriers to entry for mental healthcare.

I navigate my own journey with anxiety and clinical depression, a lived experience that fuels my dedication to this cause. However, my perspective is also shaped by the many roles I hold: I am a father, a coach, a professional, and an active member of my community.

Through the Check Your Head Project, I aim to leverage our collective strength to ensure that no one has to face their mental health challenges alone or unheard. By completing practical tasks for our neighbors to fund therapy sessions for those in need, we are creating a cycle of support that strengthens the fabric of our community.

"We aren't just raising awareness; we are creating access. By working together, we ensure that the first step toward healing is a step everyone can afford to take." — Scott MacDonald, Founder
